Nigeria spends N750m annually on Dubai tourism-FG
The Director of policy analysis,research and statistics,Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment,Dr Paul Adalikwu,has revealed that Nigeria spends N750m annually on Dubai tourism through taxation on tickets adding that 250,000 Nigerians travelled to Dubai last year.
He stated his in Abuja yesterday at the unveiling of rennytravels.com,an online platform which is a subsidiary of RennyWorld Travels and Tours that has provided quality services in the tourism industry for the past eight years.
The online platforms contain a holistic travel package that encompasses all travel logistics from flights,accommodation,transfers,corporate travels,tours.pilgrims and Visa for various international and local destinations.
According to him ''in the first of July 2016,Dubai introduced $10 per ticket,so anybody travelling there will pay $10 on every ticket purchased,so if you multiply $10 X 250,000 Nigerians.it's $2.5 million and if you convert it to N300 per dollar official rate ,it will give you N750m.
He said Nigeria spends N750m annually on tourism aside from shopping,accommodation,that if the money was incorporated into travel agencies,it will be a significant contribution to the Nigerian economy.
He also stated,Nigeria is the largest spenders in UK travels and tour industry,with a call on stakeholders to develop Nigerian tourism industry which he described as the next frontier for economic diversification.
While disclosing Nigerian contributes 40% to South Africa tourism,he described tourism as a flexible sector that can accommodate all class of people in the country.
He expressed optimism that the Federal Government through it's implementing agency,Nigeria Tourism and Development Corporation (NTDC) would provide a proper platform for Renny Travels and Tours to key into their international events as part of plans by President Muhammadu Buhari to diversify the economy away from oil.
The Chief Executive officer of rennytravels,com Mrs Maureen Mgbudem,in her address said,the vision of the agency was aimed at empowerment through job creation as well to become number one travel online travels and tours in Africa.
