The 36-year-old Peterborough local arrived at a bed and breakfast with his new wife Marilyn, 51. He stepped out to take in his new view and leaned up against the balcony in the process.But unbeknown to Matt, the wooden structure was rotted through and collapsed under his weight.
He fell 15 feet to the ground below at the Chellowdene guest house in Falmouth...
For the next week, instead of relaxing on his honeymoon Matt was reclined in his hospital bed.He suffered a shattered right hand and split open his head.
Doctors gave him 25 stitches and a metal plate was inserted into his hand.
The owners of the guest house faced Truro Magistrates Court over the incident.Troy and Julie McCann, 48 and 49, pleaded guilty to failing to maintain a proper balcony.The couple were fined £4000 each and ordered to pay costs of more than £3000.
